The Smeg name is from the Guastallia region of Italy.

The name Smeg means ’Smalterie Metallurgiche, Emiliane, Guastallia’ which is a large metal enamelling factory in Emilia, Italy.

Smeg has built itself a name for very high build quality by using exceptional quality components and having a system of point testing at every point of production.

It takes up to (and maby times over) two years of research, development and testing before Smeg is happy to release a new product onto the market, and each appliance is tested at the factory for over 15 years of use.
